Situated in one of Colombia’s principal industrial zones, and with a clear export vocation, Contecar sea terminal is the ideal platform. In competitive terms, it is able to access international trade markets, products and services.

The goal is for Cartagena to become one of the world’s 30 most important ports. Its third development phase, which included major investments in infrastructure and the acquisition of equipment, was completed recently. Under the Development Plan, which began in 2008 and is expected to end in 2017-2018, Contecar will be capable of handling 3.2 million TEUs per year, more than twice its current capacity.

As a result of this expansion, the Port of Cartagena Organization will soon be able to handle 5.2 million TEUs per year.

Contecar is thus consolidating a position as the ideal Caribbean port platform for connectivity and competitiveness in the 21st century.

  • It can handle 1.5 million TEUs per year, and by 2018 its annual capacity will have increased to 3.2 million TEUs.

  • It also has the necessary infrastructure for handling Ro-Ro cargo, and specializes in automobile cargo for national and regional markets.

  • It is connected to direct routes in global trade networks, which translates into lower costs and less time spent.

  • The port´s employees receive specialized training through its Port and Logistics Training Center, the only one of its kind in Latin America. This differential factor enables the port to provide the best logistic services in the region.
